After some much needed reorganization of our crap and a good clean up inside our trailer, Shale and I hit the road to make our way to Jeff and Marcia's house in Fishers, IN. We hit up the Waffle House on our way, of course! Listen, I've got to get it while I can because in a few short days, no more Waffle House...so sad.
We arrived in IN around 4:30pm which was MUCH later than we had originally planned but, that is the way the day rolled. Mom and Dad Mount had arrived a while before with the kids. They had time to pick up Aunt Betty AND stopped at The Old Custard Stand for a treat!

Of course we had to take family group shots (especially since the ones we took a few nights ago at Matt and Laurel's were all blurry)!

Something you should know about my sister-in-law, Marcia. She is the master of gaming and contests. Not gaming as the younger generation would know it today, but gaming as in....the good old games (Rook, Mafia, Uno, sibling wrestling, etc). If we are with Marcia, we are playing games - and I love this about her! So today, she announces that she has purchased marshmallows - initially I thought, "Oh how nice, they are going to make S'mores tonight". Oh no! These marshmallows were not for roasting, instead these marshmallows were for a contest....The Chubby Bunny contest! Now, I am not sure if I want to toot this particular horn, but I am going to anyway.....way back in 2000 we had a Miles family (Grandma Mount's family) reunion in Indiana, in which I attended. One of the afternoon contests on this particular day was "Chubby Bunny" - I was the winner of this contest that day 15 years ago. Yay me!
Now, if you are not familiar....let me familiarize you. Every contestant takes a full size marshmallow and shoves it in their mouth and then must say, "Chubby Bunny". Round 1, over. Repeat. Round 2, over. Continue to repeat....until those with tiny bird mouths just cannot handle the rapidly enlarging, gooey, slimy mess of marshmallows and have to bow out. Those of us with let's say, larger capacity pie holes continue. One by one, contestants drop. The last one standing is dubbed the "Chubby Bunny" champion. Yes, this was me at the Miles family
reunion - 13 (maybe 18, according to Marcia) marshmallows and I have held the championship spot ever since.
You know where I am going with this, don't you?! Yes, we held a mini contest this afternoon. Myself, William, Eli, Cassidy and Marcia. Will was sure he was going to win and honestly, I was willing to let him by not partaking however, that was not an option, per Marcia. I knew Eli was out from the get go. Cassidy takes after me and has a pretty good size mouth so she is definitely a contender. Marcia came in 2nd years ago at the reunion so I knew what she was capable of. Will has a big mouth and I thought perhaps he would actually be pretty good at this, but I wasn't certain at this point that he knew the correct technique in marshmallow placement.....he didn't. The contest was over fairly quick with Eli out first then William, Cassidy followed and then Marcia with 9. I had already popped 10 in and didn't need to go any further with no more competition alive at the table - champion again! Like I said before, I am not sure that this is a horn I really want to be tooting but it is pretty funny you have to admit - as are the photos below! Of course, Shale was the only one taking pictures so you don't get to see how ridiculous anyone else looked, just me - excellent.
| Don't judge! You know you are going to run out and get some marshmallows to give this a try, if you haven't already. |
With another win under my belt, we were off to hit the road west. I knew we weren't going to make it too far this evening before we would find camp but some miles are better than none with over 1,300 in front of us to Bear Lake, UT.
The kids, Grandma and Grandpa would be leaving shortly after us to make their way back to KY so they could pick up my niece, Samantha from the airport. She will be joining them for the next week and a half. Cass and Eli really love Sammy and are looking forward to spending time with her! I have asked the kids to send me photos of their fun so I can keep you up to date on what they are up to as well as our journey - we'll see if they remember!
Good night!
1 - Emery is the cutest of all of my nephews
ReplyDelete2 - Cass looks 17 and I'd like that to not happen anymore
3 - I miss all of these faces! Get here already.
